NCMS is able to provide services to take a prototype from research and development stage to manufactured and qualified product. These services cover advanced composites applications in the areas of Transportation. These services meet the customers' needs from concept through manufacturing process and cell development to sustainable manufacturing. Such services are accomplished by state of the art expertise in filament winding, Compression molding (Bulk molding compound (BMC) or sheet molding compound (SMC)), Lay-up and Autoclave processes.
We conduct high standards of quality in our products with unmatched service to follow. Our group of engineers and their vast experience will assist clients in designing the most cost effective and optimal solutions that go beyond compliance for clients' requirements.
Filament Winding
Filament winding is well suited to automation, and there are many applications, such as pipe and small pressure vessel that are wound and cured without any human intervention. The controlled variables for winding are fiber type, resin content, winding angle, tow or bandwidth and thickness of the fiber bundle. The angle, at which the fiber has an effect on the properties of the final product, is also a major controlling factor. A high angle "hoop" will provide circumferential strength, while lower angle patterns (polar or helical) will provide greater longitudinal / axial tensile strength.
Lay-Up Manufacturing
Unlike filament winding, which requires a comparatively minimal level of human involvement, lay-up involves manually stacking layers of resin-impregnated roving cloth, usually of fiberglass or carbon weave, in an open mold, and compressing them to form a solid composite product.
NCMS skilled technicians can create complex composite structures that would be much more difficult via other production technologies. Additionally, the technicians can manually orient the fiber arrangement for optimal strength and durability. Because of its labor-intensive nature, however, lay-up is primarily suited to low-volume runs or the production of specialty composite items that would be too difficult or low-volume.
Compression Molding
Compression molding is a closed-mold composite manufacturing process that uses matched metal molds with the application of external pressure. The combination of heat and pressure produces a composite part with low void content and high fiber volume fraction—a near net shape finished component. Compression molding often yields composite parts that have the optimal mechanical properties as much as possible.
Compression molding is an appropriate fabrication system for producing uniform quantities of complex, high-strength composite structures of carbon fiber or fiberglass. Compression molding allows for the manufacturing of complicated components with features, such as holes, that would otherwise have to be machined post-mold. The technique produces a highly integral composite structure with fewer knit lines and less fiber-length degradation than injection molding.
